For more than 90 years, Foleys has delivered plumbing services across New Zealand
Today, we are one of the country's largest multi-trade contractors, providing plumbing, gasfitting, drainage, electrical and HVAC services to residential and commercial customers.
Our history
Foleys was founded in Dunedin in 1934 by Albert Foley
What began as a family-owned plumbing business servicing local homes and communities grew steadily over the following decades.
Albert eventually handed the business over to his son, Brian Foley. Brian believed the success of Foleys’ depended on its people and invested heavily in apprenticeships, training and long-term relationships. Those principles helped shape the values that continue to guide Foleys today.
Under Brian’s leadership, Foleys expanded beyond residential plumbing, into commercial contracting. Foleys opened branches across New Zealand and broadened its service offering by bringing additional trades into the business.
Today, Foleys operates from 11 locations throughout the country. Our service capability has grown from a local plumbing business to a national plumbing, gasfitting, drainage, electrical and HVAC contractor.
Our team work on commercial new builds, large-scale projects and maintenance contracts. While our capabilities have expanded, Foleys remains a trusted name in homes throughout New Zealand.

Young Plumber of the Year
Investing in our people is something Foleys are proud of. Our Apprenticeship Programme has been part of our journey from the beginning. Which is why we are a Silver Sponsor of the Young Plumber of the Year competition. This is an opportunity for up-and-coming talent to showcase their skills and compete on a national stage. It’s part of our commitment to future-proofing the plumbing and building services industry in Aotearoa.
Led by Plumbing World, the Young Plumbers programme connects, upskills, and supports the next generation of plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers. With a large part of the industry set to retire in the coming years, we believe it’s essential to give young tradies opportunities to step up, build confidence, and grow as future leaders.
MATES in Construction
The wellbeing of our team and those around us matters. Foleys is a proud supporter of MATES in Construction an organisation working to improve mental health and prevent suicide in the building and construction sector.
The statistics are tough. We’re losing nearly one person every week to suicide, most of them men. MATES delivers on-site training and builds peer support networks to create safer, more connected workplaces.
Foleys take part in MATES training sessions and workshops, learning how to check in with their workmates and look after each other, because everyone has a role to play in building a healthier industry.
