Specialist infrastructure for KiwiRail’s new facility

KiwiRail undertook the construction of a new mechanical facility in Waltham, Christchurch, as part of an investment to enhance operational capability.

Working alongside KiwiRail and principal contractor Calder Stewart, Foleys delivered hydraulic, wastewater, compressed air, and trade waste services. Our team provided coordinated design and installation solutions aligned with KiwiRail’s operational requirements.

The project presented technical challenges, including contaminated ground conditions and the need for corrosion-resistant infrastructure. These were addressed through practical design refinement and the implementation of stainless-steel systems. Foleys’ on-site problem-solving ensured the long-term functionality and performance of the facility.

The KiwiRail Waltham Mechanical Hub was delivered on time, within budget, and met client expectations. The project further strengthened Foleys’ long-standing relationship with Calder Stewart, reflecting a collaborative approach and consistent delivery across complex commercial projects.
